Another year has passed and Holy Week is about to start on Costa del Sol. This 2014 Holy Week officially starts on Sunday the 13th of April and ends on Sunday the 20th, though on the 11th of April, Friday before Palm Sunday, some areas of Fuengirola, like Los Boliches, will start their celebrations.
This Friday is known in Spain as “Viernes de Dolores” or “Viernes de Pasión” and it refers to the suffering of the virgin. This day in Fuengirola is when thrones are traditionally moved and luckily Hotel Angela is in an excellent location as we are quite close to where one of these moves takes place.
This Friday evening the figures of “Jesus held captive” and the “Virgin of los Dolores” will be moved from the church in Los Boliches to their processional brotherhood headquarters which are located very close to the fairground.
The move starts at 8:30 P.M at the church of Los Boliches and ends at the brotherhood headquarters at around 10:00 P.M. The itinerary includes Calle Iglesia, Calle Santísima Trinidad, Calle Maestra Concepción Guidet and Avenida Jesús Cautivo, all of them in Los Boliches, very close to Hotel Angela.
Another important day in Los Boliches is Palm Sunday which this year will be on the 13th of April. This day the “Palm and Olive Procession” will start at 10:30 A.M. The starting point is the processional brotherhood headquarters and the finishing point is the church. The procession will be over at around 11:30 A.M.
But this is just the beginning as during Holy Week there will be many more processions and interesting things to see not just in Los Boliches but also in other parts of Fuengirola so we will tell you much more about all it on our next blog entry.
As you can see you don’t need to go very far to get to experience our Holy Week, so if you are on holiday at Hotel Angela, your hotel in Fuengirola and you fancy doing something different, unique and traditional we recommend you not to miss the move on Friday and the Palm Sunday procession.
Enjoy Holy Week in Los Boliches!
