If what you need is a little push before exploring new places these interesting facts about Ronda might make you change your mind:

  • Ronda is one of the most beautiful and famous towns in Andalusia.

 

  • Its Puente Nuevo was built in the18th century. Nowadays this is considered the symbol of this lovely town.

 

  • Ronda is all about the old bullfighting tradition. Its bullring is one of the oldest and most important in Spain.
  • In 1994 in this bullring Queen of Pop Madonna shot her video “Take a Bow”. In it she appeared with Spanish bullfighter Emilio Muñoz.
  • Ronda is also famous for its great cuisine, for this reason in 2010 popular celebrity chef Jamie Oliver visited Costa del Sol and went to Ronda to shoot the first episode of his cooking show “Jamie Does”.   In it Jamie visited the Bullring, had a chat with the master ham cutters from “La Casa del Jamón”, had tapas in local bars and bought delicious “tortas de la virgen” baked by the nuns of Iglesia de la Merced.
  • Famous American writer Ernest Hemingway loved Ronda and he spent there part of his life.
  • Same as Hemingway famous American actor and director Orson Welles also fell in love with the place, for this reason when he died his ashes were scattered there, in the estate of one of his best friends, bullfighting legend Antonio Ordoñez.
  • “Curro Jimenez”, a very Popular Spanish TV show from the 70s, was shot in the Ronda Mountains.

If after reading this post about Ronda you would love to visit, you might be interested in knowing that although Ronda seems quite distant from Fuengirola it is quite easy to get there either by coach or by train. The coach service departs from Fuengirola Bus station while if you decide to go by train, you will have to take it in Los Boliches and get off in Malaga María Zambrano Station. Once there there is a mid distance train to Ronda.
