It has been once week since we welcomed 2015 and while in the rest of Europe Christmas celebrations ended days ago in Spain we continued celebrating up until yesterday as the 6th of January is “3 Wise men Day”.

As Spain is traditionally a catholic country, the most common thing is to get your presents the night of the 5th of January, or the morning of the 6th of January. This does not mean though that we do not know who Father Christmas is, many people in Spain also receive his visit on the 25th of December.

Yesterday was a bank holiday in Spain. This is a day to be with the family, enjoy the presents received and eat the traditional “Roscon de Reyes”.

Roscón de Reyes is a delicious round shaped cake of a big size that Spanish families consume on the 5th and 6th of January, especially for breakfast and at tea time.

It is big and fluffy and among its main ingredients are candied fruit, almonds and sugar. It can be filled with cream and even with chocolate truffle.  It normally comes with a golden paper crown and inside hides 2 fun surprises.

In other European countries people start with their new year’s resolutions on 1st of January, in Spain though most of us don’t start until the 7th of January.

As soon as the Roscon de Reyes is finished, our most common first resolution is to lead a healthier life and do more sport, something particularly easy in Costa del Sol thanks to our delicious Mediterranean food, our great weather and the fantastic promenades we have, perfect to do a bit of exercise.

Here at Hotel Angela we are quite curious so we would love to know what resolutions you have for 2015.

Our main wish is to continue seeing you all happy and to go on offering you a great smile and an excellent service.

We hope to see you this year!
