Malaga Raisins

14Oct

We know that many of you are loyal guests of Hotel Angela and that you have visited us for many years and you love Costa del Sol, for this reason, as you possibly don’t know much about it, today we would like to talk about the most traditional side of our beautiful region.Malaga Raisins - Hotel Angela Fuengirola

We tend to relate Costa del Sol to sea, sun, fishing and holiday makers, and we forget that here agriculture is also important, to the point that the muscatel grape industry is one of the most outstanding in the region.

The famous muscatel grapes grow in the Axarquía (Eastern Costa del Sol) and Manilva areas (Western Costa del Sol bordering the province of Cadiz).

These grapes get ripe by the end of July or beginning of August and once they have been collected they can be used as table grapes, for wine production or as raisins.

The drying process is a very old technique that consists of drying them under the sun.

The grapes have an even dark reddish colour, an intense sweet flavour and some seeds.

In Malaga and Andalusia, possibly because of our Arabic heritage, raisins have an important role in our gastronomy as they are usually used to go with meat, to create sauces or to prepare some sweets or desserts.

Did you know how important raisins were on Costa del Sol? Have you tried any dish which contained them during your stay at Hotel Angela? What are the typical products of your region? We are very curious and we would like to know it, so if you fancy you can tell us on our Facebook page.

And the Fair continues

08Oct

The fair continues in Fuengirola and at Hotel Angela we keep on celebrating. We had our first activity about the fair last week and today, Tuesday the 8th of October, at 1:00 P.M. by the pool we will have our second one. Today’s activity is very interesting as we will talk about the flamenco dress and its matching accessories and we will also show you how to wear them and how to clap to flamenco.Fair of Fuengirola 2013 - Hotel Angela Fuengirola

Tomorrow the 9th of October at 5:00 P.M at the lounge our most popular activity about the fair will be on: the sevillanas dancing class.

If there is something typical of the fair this is the sevillanas. Sevillanas is the most danced regional dance in Spain and also abroad.

Sevillanas tend to be danced in pairs and are divided in 4 parts, though in our activity we will just teach you how to dance the first one which is the easiest to remember. If you love a challenge, you love dancing and you would like to learn this beautiful Spanish dance we expect your attendance.

Besides, you will be able to put everything you have learnt in practice on Thursday the 10th of October as in the evening from 8:00 P.M Hotel Angela will celebrate its party dedicated to the fair, one of the most beautiful and popular of the year.

Try not miss it and continue enjoying the fair at Hotel Ángela, your hotel in Fuengirola!

Ready for the Fair of Fuengirola?

30Sep

In general we, people from Fuengirola, love summer months as we can make the most of our amazing beaches and our wonderful weather, but did you know that October is also one of our favourite months too? It is, and this is not a big surprise as our fair is in October.Fair of Fuengirola 2013 - Hotel Angela Fuengirola

Every year Fuengirola celebrates its fair from the 6th till the 12th of October. This is our most special week of the year, so it obviously is a very special time at Hotel Angela too.

Year after year celebrating something so typical and so magic with you fills us with joy, so for this reason, before the fair starts and also while it is on, we wanted you to enjoy some interesting activities we have organised for you.

The first of these activities will take place on Thursday the 3rd of October at 11:30 A.M by the pool. It is a cultural activity where we will explain you a little bit more about the fair and we will teach you typical words commonly used during this week of joy.

More special activities will be on next week, so on our next post we will tell you a little bit more about them.

Last year not only the guests who attended had fun, we also had the time of our lives. There is nothing more enriching than a cultural exchange, so we expect your participation!

Are you ready for the fair? We certainly are!!!
