Your favourite place in Fuengirola – Contest

This month we are thinking in renewing our “Things to do” section in our website. We want to present Fuengirola and Costal del Sol in a different way. We think that you, our guests and friends, are the best people to recommend what a tourist would like to visit while staying at our Hotel Angela. On the other hand our staff can also give a different view to our town and surroundings.

This is why we are already working on making a list of our staff’s favourite places in Fuengirola. With this information we will create a guide: Hotel Angela staff recommend…

For the guest’s point of view we will need your help. For this we think it would be nice to have like a photo contest, you would send us a picture of your favourite place here in Fuengirola and a description on why you recommend it. This picture would then be part of a contest were all the staff will choose the best 10 photographs and places to post in our website to create what we will call: Our guest’s recommend…

How to participate:

  1. Send us 1 photograph of your favourite place in Fuengirola or Costa del Sol with a description to the following email address:
  2. Make sure you write your name, date on which you took the picture and which hotel you were staying at (we will be doing the contest in our 3 hotels).

NOTE: If you do not have a way of sending us the picture through email, don’t worry, you can send it by post or even bring it with you on your next visit.

This contest will end on the 15th of December 2011.

We thank you in advance for your help, hoping to receive many pictures to show our future guests what they will find here.

Halloween 2011 at Hotel Angela

Pumpkin contest 2011If you are going to be with us to celebrate halloween you should also know about spanish traditions on these days. In spain on the 1st of november visits to the cementery increase to leave flowers to our beloved. It is all saints day which became a holiday to conmemorate all those saints who didn’t have a specific day in their memory. As for the 31st of October, Halloween, in Spain it is not a tradition to celebrate it. However we have been influenced over the years and so you will see some places where you will feel like at home.

For example here at Hotel Angela in Fuengirola. We do celebrate this day, which we think is fun because it brings out the creativity of those that get dressed with costumes. The decoration is also very important in halloween, so this time apart from decorating our main areas we have put a staff’s pumpkin contest into place.

We have enjoyed this very much. You should have seen each department making their pumpkin as excited as a kid would be. It is the first time most of them have decorated a pumpkin but if you see the results you would never guess.

Thanks to all your votes on paper and by facebook, we have a winner:

All the pumpkins were great and we know you must have had a hard time choosing. For those of you curious to know which department did what here you have the list:

1 – “Pepe” – Maintenance

2 – “Ghost Head waiter” – Restaurant

3 – “Mot” – Kitchen

4 – “Bat pumpkin” – Administration

5 – “Sheriff Lady” – Snack Bar

6 – “José Tomás” – Bar

7 – “George Long-hands” – Reception

8 – “Lola” – Housekeeping

9 – “Jacinto” – Purchasing department (ML Hoteles)

Congratulations to the winners which get a dinner for the whole team. Also to all the other departments, all the pumpkins were very original and the best part was seeing how we all had so much fun with the contest.

Fuengirola Feria (Festival) 2011

Every year, from the 6th till the 12th of October, Fuengirola celebrates its “Feria”. The word “Feria” is translated as festival. The streets get decorated with the colours of the town’s flag (blue and white) and all the locals dress in flamenco dresses.

This year at the Hotel Angela, we wanted to transmit some of our traditions to our guests, in order for them to get into the feria atmosphere, and gave some classes:

  • How to wear flamenco accesories.
  • How to dance flamenco (sevillanas)
  • How to clap to Sevillanas and Rumbas (Flamenco)

and then we organised a Feria Party to put it all into practice. Here you have a video to see how fun it was!
